Memorial Service for Doug Mather

Hello everyone. I just wanted to share some updates about Doug’s memorial service on November 2.

Dress will be casual. Please feel free to wear jeans if you are comfortable in them. Doug was definitely not a suit and tie kind of guy.

I am thinking that little kids will probably be pretty bored — they will have a better time with a favorite babysitter at home.

The celebration will be held at two consecutive venues. It would be wonderful if you can attend both, but do what is right for you.

First, we will be at Kalas Funeral Home in Edgewater, MD.
Kalas’s is very close to Annapolis. They have ample parking; you only need to walk from the parking lot into the building.

The doors will be open for us at 4 pm to start gathering.
The service is planned to be about 45 minutes and will begin at 5pm
Guests will be seated for the service

Second, we will be heading to 49 West Coffeehouse and Winebar and Gallery for some food and more celebration from about 6:30 to about 9.
This is where Doug played music for over 20 years, with Lydia and the rest of the band.
It is a special space.
It takes about 10 minutes to get there from Kalas.

Parking is kind of typical for a small city — there is metered parking through the Parkmobile app, I believe (free after 7:30pm) and garage parking
There is also residential parking, but there are time restrictions — make sure you read any signs
My recommendation would be to park in Gott’s garage — the walk from their south entrance to the front door of 49 West is .1 mile

Food will be light fare, served cocktail style
There will be some seating, but we will probably move tables out of the way so that there is more room

We will have some microphones and a guitar amp or two at 49 West if anyone would like to make a musical tribute.

If you are coming in from out of town, please reach out to me and I can recommend some hotels — Annapolis has many! The Graduate is a 3-minute walk from 49 West (.2 miles)
Uber and Lyft are great for getting around if you rather not drive in town
