“You don’t look sick!”

“You don’t look sick!” is an all too common phrase that one with chronic illness hears often. That’s about half of American adults, perhaps looking fine on the outside, but feeling sick and tired on the inside. It’s a depressing, isolating experience, especially as one navigates their acquired disability, struggling for a diagnosis.  This however is not their defining experience, but often a long overdue explanation of a life that was somehow familar or normal to them.

This show is a visual journey of the unending battle of constantly being ill. It’s a deciphering of symptoms versus identity. It is the highs and lows, frustrations and victories, in abstracted forms. It is the grief, the hope, and found humor of our unique yet shared experiences.
