DESCRIPTION:The Annapolis Cafe Scientifique (Science Cafe) @ 49 West Coffeehouse\, Winebar & Gallery\, usually on the last Thursday of the month\, January thru October\, 6:00-7:15pm ET.\nCafe Scientifique is a place where\, for the price of a cup of coffee or a glass of wine\, anyone can come to explore the latest ideas in science and technology. Meetings take place in cafes\, bars\, restaurants and even theatres\, but always outside a traditional academic context. \nAll are welcome\, these events are free\, and we are happy to add anyone to the email list. Please reserve your seats at 49 West by calling 410-626-9796 and asking them to add you to the list for the date of the Cafe Scientifique event you want to attend.\nIf you are concerned about Covid\, feel free to wear a mask\, or attend\nvia Zoom (see info below). Thursday\, April 25\, 6:00-7:15pm ET: What Happens in the Arctic Doesn’t Stay in the Arctic  \nSpeaker: Mr. John Woods\, Director\, US Navy International Engagement Office \nAbout the Talk: A tour of the Arctic Region through the eyes of a Scientist\, Naval Officer and Annapolis Resident. A short lesson in Polar Oceanography and explanation on why ‘What Happens in the Arctic doesn’t Stay in the Arctic’. The impacts of the changing climate on our local area and the changes seen over the past 15 years visiting the Polar Regions.  \nAbout the Speaker: Mr. John Woods is a 2000 graduate of the US Naval Academy and has been working for the Navy in some capacity ever since. He is currently the Director of the US Navy International Engagement Office working in the Pentagon. He has also had positions working for NASA and NOAA all focused on the Polar Regions.  Prior to retiring from the US Navy Reserves\, John served as a Surface Warfare Officer on the USS Cleveland and as a Meteorology and Oceanography Officer.
