DESCRIPTION:PLEASE CALL FOR RESERVATIONS AT 410-626-9796! \nDonato Soviero Trio featuring Wade Beach on Piano and James King on Bass \nDonato Soviero is an inspiring guitarist based in Washington\, DC\nwho’s been dedicated to performing music for 40 years. Through live\nperformances and studio recordings\, he’s honed his creativity and\nsound to become a distinctive voice in jazz. The guitarist and composer\nbegan playing music at the age of twelve. By high school\, he had\nalready set a course as a jazz musician. His formal jazz studies began\nat the University of Miami\, and later he earned a bachelor’s degree from\nGeorge Mason University. Donato has appeared with top local and\nnational artists in the Washington D.C. area since 1982\, and led his own\ngroups in the United States\, Europe and the Caribbean. He has\nappeared at the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts\, Wolf Trap\, and\nthe Carter Barron Amphitheater\, where he opened for Poncho Sanchez\nand the late Tito Puente. Mr. Soviero has also led bands in D.C. venues\nsuch as Blues Alley\, Twins Jazz\, the Bohemian Caverns\, the\nSmithsonian Jazz Café\, Bethesda Jazz and Blues\, and many Jazz\nfestivals. He has been a member of the Smithsonian Jazz Masterworks\nOrchestra\, as well as co-led (w/saxophonist Jeff Antoniuk) the Jazz-\nfusion group\, MARS 4tet. He’s played for several Presidents\, and at the\nState Department for the Thelonious Monk Institute. Mr. Soviero has\nbeen the recipient of awards\, including a 1994 TAP Award from the D.C.\nCommission of the Arts and Humanities and a 1995 GIA Fellowship\nfrom the National Endowment for the Arts. Recent recordings include\nthe 2021 release “Brazilian Moments”\, 2019 release “For All We Know”\,\n“The Blind Watchmaker” (w/Mars 4’Tet)\, many features as sideman\, and\na CD tribute to Charlie Byrd entitled “Classical Jazz.”\nTom Cole\, host of WPFW’S ‘G STRINGS’ has this to say about\nDonato’s guitar playing: “His beautiful phrasing and impressive\nimprovising took me aback… He’s one of those real surprises.”
