Their focus has always been to compose and perform their own original music within the jazz idiom\, honoring the masters by carrying on the tradition. Be it through blues\, swing\, bebop\, soul jazz\, or more modern funk and groove\, the group has developed an incredible and unique sound by merging the diverse backgrounds of each of these fine musicians into one voice. The result is a whirlwind of grooves\, melodies\, and diverse textures that are a true delight to hear. Collectively\, the members of the Shook/Russo 5tet have performed extensively throughout the United States\, as well as performed in Canada\, Mexico\, Asia\, Europe\, and the Caribbean and at festivals such as the Lionel Hampton Jazz Festival\, the Ottawa Jazz Festival\, the Stan Getz Jazz Festival\, the East Coast Jazz Festival\, the Vancouver International Jazz Festival\, and the Telluride Jazz Festival\, the Wall Street Jazz Festival and the Mid-Atlantic Jazz Festival to name a few. They currently have two CDs out on Summit Records\, and will be releasing a new album later this year\, featuring all new music by members of the band. \n

Call ahead and reserve a table and come early to get some food and drinks. Doors open at 7pm in the music room and show starts at 7:30pm with: \n\n  \n  \n\nTHE 9 SONGWRITER SERIES\nFounded in Washington DC in 2008 by singer/songwriter Justin Trawick\, “The 9 Songwriter Series” is a touring collective and live show featuring nine acts performing together for one evening of songs and collaboration. In an industry where artists are often working independently\, “The 9” brings performers together\, often whom have never met\, to combine their talents and perform to large crowds around the country. Each installment features an ensemble of nine acts performing in a unique and captivating format\, telling stories\, and sitting in on each other’s songs with little to no rehearsal for a community experience that can’t be duplicated or emulated. To date\, over 500 different artists have participated in “The 9” at shows in DC\, Baltimore\, Annapolis\, Philadelphia\, New York\, Fairfield\, Boston\, Richmond\, Charlottesville\, Charlotte\, New Orleans\, Atlanta\, Los Angeles and San Francisco. \n\n\n  \n
