Their focus has always been to compose and perform their own original music within the jazz idiom\, honoring the masters by carrying on the tradition. Be it through blues\, swing\, bebop\, soul jazz\, or more modern funk and groove\, the group has developed an incredible and unique sound by merging the diverse backgrounds of each of these fine musicians into one voice. The result is a whirlwind of grooves\, melodies\, and diverse textures that are a true delight to hear. Collectively\, the members of the Shook/Russo 5tet have performed extensively throughout the United States\, as well as performed in Canada\, Mexico\, Asia\, Europe\, and the Caribbean and at festivals such as the Lionel Hampton Jazz Festival\, the Ottawa Jazz Festival\, the Stan Getz Jazz Festival\, the East Coast Jazz Festival\, the Vancouver International Jazz Festival\, and the Telluride Jazz Festival\, the Wall Street Jazz Festival and the Mid-Atlantic Jazz Festival to name a few. They currently have two CDs out on Summit Records\, and will be releasing a new album later this year\, featuring all new music by members of the band.

The band features acclaimed recording and performing artists bassist Max Murray\, saxophonist Jeff Antoniuk\, drummer Frank Russo and guitarist Donato Soveiro. \nAs a long time member of Afro Bop Alliance\, bassist Max Murray shared a Latin Grammy Award and a Grammy nomination for the 2008 album Caribbean Jazz Project with Dave Samuels. The Boston bred musician is a former U.S. Naval Academy Band member. \nSaxophonist Jeff Antoniuk has toured many continents since leaving Alberta\, Canada and is lauded for his heightened powers on the saxophone. Jazz Times praised his considerable chops while MusikReviews.com described his amazing saxophone playing.
