Jenn has an enigmatic and versitile voice\, which is capable of a wide variety of styles. In addition to The Befuddlers Jenn can be seen around town with her other group\, the Hypnotic Panties. She also has a band with her brother Jeremy\, and father Pete which is called Crosstown. \nLarry Byrne is a multi-instumentalist and singer\, and lays down the rhythm on acoustic guitar with The Befuddlers. Larry sits on the board of AMFM\, a charity organization for musicians based in Annapolis. He can be seen playing with many local groups at AMFM fundraisers. Larry also plays with the local funk group\, Higher Hands\, playing the keyboards and supplying left hand bass. He also loves to join the Hypnotic Panties whenever possible! \nPete Reichwein is the father of Jenn\, and the Dobro player in the group. Pete has been a fixture in the Bluegrass community for decades\, but is also an extremely diverse musician with a good knowledge of many different styles of music.\nNo Cover Charge

DESCRIPTION:Please join us next Thursday\, May 25\, at 6pm for an Annapolis Cafe Scientifique talk by Dr. Jessican Needham: \nSeeing the forest through the trees: How computer models of tree life-cycles can help us understand forests across the globe \nAbstract: Without forests\, we would all be dead. Trees provide oxygen\, regulate the world’s climate\, provide habitat for hundreds of thousands of species\, and supply humans with everything from medicines to food to fuel. But trees grow excruciatingly slowly and live for a really long time\, making studying forests challenging for a scientist on a two-year contract. In addition\, the things that we care about\, i.e. how much carbon a forest takes up\, or how many animals it hosts\, result from the growth and survival patterns of individual trees and species. However\, there are over a trillion trees in the world and a single forest can be made up of thousands of different species. This talk will reveal how we can harness the power of statistics and computer models to scale up our understanding of how individual trees grow\, to how forests across the globe are saving us all from utter devastation.   Only 10 folks have signed up do far\, so feel free to invite folks who might be interested in this topic. Their focus has always been to compose and perform their own original music within the jazz idiom\, honoring the masters by carrying on the tradition. Be it through blues\, swing\, bebop\, soul jazz\, or more modern funk and groove\, the group has developed an incredible and unique sound by merging the diverse backgrounds of each of these fine musicians into one voice. The result is a whirlwind of grooves\, melodies\, and diverse textures that are a true delight to hear. Collectively\, the members of the Shook/Russo 5tet have performed extensively throughout the United States\, as well as performed in Canada\, Mexico\, Asia\, Europe\, and the Caribbean and at festivals such as the Lionel Hampton Jazz Festival\, the Ottawa Jazz Festival\, the Stan Getz Jazz Festival\, the East Coast Jazz Festival\, the Vancouver International Jazz Festival\, and the Telluride Jazz Festival\, the Wall Street Jazz Festival and the Mid-Atlantic Jazz Festival to name a few. The band features acclaimed recording and performing artists bassist Max Murray\, saxophonist Jeff Antoniuk\, drummer Frank Russo and guitarist Donato Soveiro. \nAs a long time member of Afro Bop Alliance\, bassist Max Murray shared a Latin Grammy Award and a Grammy nomination for the 2008 album Caribbean Jazz Project with Dave Samuels. The Boston bred musician is a former U.S. Naval Academy Band member. \nSaxophonist Jeff Antoniuk has toured many continents since leaving Alberta\, Canada and is lauded for his heightened powers on the saxophone. Jazz Times praised his considerable chops while MusikReviews.com described his amazing saxophone playing. He is a recognized master of modern jazz\, hard bop and funk. \nDrummer Frank Russo enjoyed a long career with the U.S. Naval Academy Band\, and has since won critical praise for his work with many jazz greats. His recordings have gained recognition from Downbeat\, Jazz Times and Modern Drummer. He has performed at numerous jazz festivals in North America\, Asia\, and Europe. \nGuitarist Donato Soviero has appeared with numerous groups in the US\, Europe and the Caribbean. Like his bandmates\, he has performed at all the top Washington\, D.C. concert venues. Tom Cole\, host of WPFW’S G Strings said Donato’s beautiful phrasing and impressive improvising took me aback. He’s one of those real surprises.
