The Bulgarians have a word for it\, but I forget what it is. By turns profound\, salty\, heartwarming\, funny\, enlightening\, and downright terrifying\, these guys will make your day. Unlike other duos such as the Captain and Tenille\, Hjalmar Perlszig and Vitus Verdegast\, or Frankenstein and The Wolfman\, these guys will NOT leave you fighting for purchase in a rapidly-flooding underground lab full of gigantic\, exploding steam-punk Victorian electrical machinery. \n  \nIt will be MUCH more exciting than that. You will enjoy. Be there… (bring a helmet if you have one). \n  \nMichael Gushue is co-publisher—with Dan Vera—of the nanopress Poetry Mutual. His most recent book is I Never Promised You a Sea Monkey\, a collaboration with CL Bledsoe. His other books are Pachinko Mouth (Plan B Press\, 2013)\, Conrad (Souvenir Spoon Books\, 2010)\, and Gathering Down Women (Pudding House Press\, 2007). \n  \nCL Bledsoe\, raised on a rice and catfish farm in eastern Arkansas\, is the author of more than 20 books\, including the poetry collections Riceland\, Trashcans in Love\, and his newest\, Grief Bacon\, as well as the Necro-Files novel series\, and the flash fiction collection Ray’s Sea World. He’s been published in hundreds of journals\, newspapers\, and websites that you’ve probably never heard of. He also co-writes the humor blog How to Even\, with Michael Gushue found at https://medium.com/@howtoeven. Bledsoe lives in northern Virginia with his daughter. \n  \n  \nOPEN READ: Read 3 poems\, or read for 5 minutes\, whichever is briefer. \n  \nRead your own work\, or work written by someone else. Fiction\, non-fiction\, play scripts\, and screenplay excepts are also welcome. \n  \nFor more information\, please contact \nDan Kagan  spiralstaircasepoetry@gmail.com \n  \n   Visit our Facebook event page for details and FREE PARKING HINTS https://www.facebook.com/events/229919118397963/ \n  \nPLEASE INVITE YOUR FRIENDS THROUGH THE PAGE’S LINKS \n                         \nPlease forward this to anyone who may be interested. \n  \nFREE PARKING    FREE PARKING   FREE PARKING \n  \nFREE PARKING FOR SPIRAL STAIRCASE POETRY \n  \nPARK FOR FREE in the Anne Arundel County employees’ garage at 19 St. John’s St. (GPS/Mapquest the address) \n  \nThe garage is OPEN AND FREE on weekends. It is about a five-minute walk from the 49 West Coffehouse. \n  \nThe garage is right across from the St. John’s College auditorium.  Turn on to St. John’s St. off of College Ave.\, OR come straight down Rowe Blvd. from Rt. 50\, then turn left at the light at Calvert St.\, and then left on St. John St. \n  \nHere’s a link with the St. John’s St. garage’s location and the walking route to 49 West Cafe. \nhttps://www.google.com/maps/dir/48+St+Johns+St\,+Annapolis\,+MD+21401/49+West+St\,+Annapolis\,+MD+21401/@38.9801522\,-76.497911\,16z/data=!3m1!4b1!4m14!4m13!1m5!1m1!1s0x89b7f65182b9db37:0x4667c38e84621d6d!2m2!1d-76.4941557!2d38.9820562!1m5!1m1!1s0x89b7f65097aeef1b:0xc78d78efbb4301e8!2m2!1d-76.4951957!2d38.9782484!3e2?hl=en \n  \n  \nPlease contact me with any questions. \n  \nDan Kagan\nSpiral Staircase Poetry Series\nspiralstaircasepoetry@gmail.com\n410-279-9743

SUMMARY:Cancelled- The Anansi Trio
DESCRIPTION:Due to the Covid 19 virus\, The Anansi Trio has been cancelled. Please check back to when they will be performing again \n \nThe Anansi Trio is a group of like-minded musicians drawing from a wide range of musical influences. Using the language of Jazz as their starting point they also use elements of Afro-Cuban and Indian music as well as other global traditions. Using percussion\, saxophones and acoustic bass they create a music that’s unique and experimental yet remains accessible. With a diverse rhythmic approach and a focus on improvisation\, The Anansi Trio hopes to put their own stamp on the American legacy known as Jazz. \n“On the groups debut album “On The Path” the sound is lean and clean\, with just the right amount of breathing room…Their album is smartly titled\, whichever direction the music takes it always feels like forward motion.” – Chris Richards\, The Washington Post \n“The Anansi Trio’s ability to put together and embellish effective melodies is amazing. These guys work wonders from the simplest of formats.” – Jerome Wilson\, All About Jazz \nBe sure to check out the “Anansi Mix” for a preview of selections that will appear on our new CD\, to be released in early 2020.

SUMMARY:Shook/ Russo 4 Tet
DESCRIPTION:  \n \nAmy Shook – acoustic bass\nPat Shook – tenor saxophone\nFrank Russo – drums\nJonathan Epley – guitar \nThe Shook/Russo 5tet has been performing together since 2005 in the mid-Atlantic region. Their focus has always been to compose and perform their own original music within the jazz idiom\, honoring the masters by carrying on the tradition. Be it through blues\, swing\, bebop\, soul jazz\, or more modern funk and groove\, the group has developed an incredible and unique sound by merging the diverse backgrounds of each of these fine musicians into one voice. The result is a whirlwind of grooves\, melodies\, and diverse textures that are a true delight to hear. Collectively\, the members of the Shook/Russo 5tet have performed extensively throughout the United States\, as well as performed in Canada\, Mexico\, Asia\, Europe\, and the Caribbean and at festivals such as the Lionel Hampton Jazz Festival\, the Ottawa Jazz Festival\, the Stan Getz Jazz Festival\, the East Coast Jazz Festival\, the Vancouver International Jazz Festival\, and the Telluride Jazz Festival\, the Wall Street Jazz Festival and the Mid-Atlantic Jazz Festival to name a few. They currently have two CDs out on Summit Records\, and will be releasing a new album later this year\, featuring all new music by members of the band. \n
