Titan’s temperature is so cold (94 K or -180˚C) that it has liquid methane lakes. However\, Titan is a surprisingly ideal destination to study what makes a planet or moon habitable and what chemical processes can lead to the development of life.  This talk will present the case for an extensive exploration of Titan’s surface using a relocatable lander that can fly from one surface location to another. This Dragonfly mission concept would allow an investigation of Titan’s pre-biotic surface chemistry as well as a search for signatures of potential water-based or even hydrocarbon-based life. \n  \nAbout the Speaker: Dr. Ann Parsons received a BS in Physics from the University of Michigan and a Ph.D also in Physics from the University of California at Berkeley.  She has been an astrophysicist at NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt MD\, for over 20 years\, starting her career with the study of gamma ray bursts in the early universe and more recently focusing on the development of scientific instrumentation used to study the composition of planets in our own solar system. \nAnd on February 28 at 6:15pm\, Kateri Payne\, MS\, CPT and Clinical Nutritionist\, Intern will present a talk on Inflammation and Nutrition.  More on this talk soon. \n  \nCheers! \nTracy Gill and Andy Loftus

DESCRIPTION:Guitarist\, Composer\, and teacher Donato Soviero has been performing in and around the Washington DC area for thirty years. Noted for his superb artistry as a guitarist and composer\, Donato’s roots are firmly planted in the tradition of mainstream jazz\, but his scope of musical interest is wide. Donato has appeared with top local and national artists\, as well as leading many of his own groups in the United States\, Europe and the Caribbean. \nIn the early 90’s\, his group Decisiones highlighted his composing and arranging skills in a Latin-Jazz vein. He’s opened for Poncho Sanchez and Tito Puente\, and has appeared with national artists at Wolftrap\, the D.C. Convention Center\, the Kennedy Center\, the Smithsonian\, and RFK Stadium and performed at numerous Jazz festivals. He’s played for Presidents and at the State Department for the Thelonious Monk Institute. \nRecordings include a self-titled CD\, several features as sideman and CD tribute to Charlie Byrd entitled “Classical Jazz.” One of his most recent projects has been a modern jazz group called the MARS 4-Tet (mars4-tet.com) which has recorded its debut release\, The Blind Watchmaker. \n“His beautiful phrasing and impressive improvising took me aback…He’s one of those real surprises.”  –Tom Cole\, host of WPFW’S ‘G STRINGS’

We’re giving away a guitar every 90 days! \nHow do I sign up to perform at Open Mic Sundays?\nA sign-up sheet will be at the venue where you can sign up to perform. Please write down any special requests or ask the sound engineer if you have any questions or special needs. \nHow long or many songs can I/we play?\nAt this time\, we’re offering each performer a 10-minute set (two long songs\, or three short songs) and few minutes for setup. You may sign up a second time once you have performed. \nWhat equipment is provided at Open Mic Sundays?\nA PA\, Mics\, Stands\, A Cajon\, and a Breedlove Guitar. \nWhat should I bring to perform at Open Mic Sundays?\nAll performers should bring their primary instrument to perform I.E. Guitar players should bring their guitar (and amp if applicable). \nWhat shouldn’t I bring?\nDue to the intimate setting of this venue\, we do not recommend bringing a full drum kit or obnoxiously loud instruments.
