SUMMARY:Intimate Jazz with Donato Sovieri Trio
DESCRIPTION:Guitarist\, Composer\, and teacher Donato Soviero has been performing in and around the Washington DC area for thirty years. Noted for his superb artistry as a guitarist and composer\, Donato’s roots are firmly planted in the tradition of mainstream jazz\, but his scope of musical interest is wide. Donato has appeared with top local and national artists\, as well as leading many of his own groups in the United States\, Europe and the Caribbean. \nIn the early 90’s\, his group Decisiones highlighted his composing and arranging skills in a Latin-Jazz vein. He’s opened for Poncho Sanchez and Tito Puente\, and has appeared with national artists at Wolftrap\, the D.C. Convention Center\, the Kennedy Center\, the Smithsonian\, and RFK Stadium and performed at numerous Jazz festivals. He’s played for Presidents and at the State Department for the Thelonious Monk Institute. \nRecordings include a self-titled CD\, several features as sideman and CD tribute to Charlie Byrd entitled “Classical Jazz.” One of his most recent projects has been a modern jazz group called the MARS 4-Tet (mars4-tet.com) which has recorded its debut release\, The Blind Watchmaker. \n“His beautiful phrasing and impressive improvising took me aback…He’s one of those real surprises.”  –Tom Cole\, host of WPFW’S ‘G STRINGS’

DESCRIPTION:  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \nCome on down to 49west – Larry and i’ll be singing & playing and hanging out in one of our favorite local places.. there is all kinds of good stuff going there besides this music we’re promoting. amazing artwork\, food and drinks\, people. No cover\, just walk on in\, seat yourself. – we’re in the front room. \nJenn Byrne is the foundation of the group\, playing the upright bass\, and doing the Lion’s share of the singing. Jenn has an enigmatic and versitile voice\, which is capable of a wide variety of styles. In addition to The Befuddlers Jenn can be seen around town with her other group\, the Hypnotic Panties. She also has a band with her brother Jeremy\, and father Pete which is called Crosstown. \nLarry Byrne is a multi-instumentalist and singer\, and lays down the rhythm on acoustic guitar with The Befuddlers. Larry sits on the board of AMFM\, a charity organization for musicians based in Annapolis. He can be seen playing with many local groups at AMFM fundraisers. Larry also plays with the local funk group\, Higher Hands\, playing the keyboards and supplying left hand bass. He also loves to join the Hypnotic Panties whenever possible! \nPete Reichwein is the father of Jenn\, and the Dobro player in the group. Pete has been a fixture in the Bluegrass community for decades\, but is also an extremely diverse musician with a good knowledge of many different styles of music.\nNo Cover Charge

DESCRIPTION:Direct from NYC & Rio – guitar based trio! \norn and raised in Rio de Janeiro\, Richard’s recent credits include Musical Director for Olivério: a Brazilian Twist at the Kennedy Center\, 2016; Pope Francis\, September 2015; National Endowment for the Arts Heritage Awards at Strathmore Hall\, 2013; President Obama\, White House\, 2009; concerts and workshops at University of Florida\, Middlebury College\, Georgetown University\, Virginia Commonwealth University\, UPenn\, College of Charleston\, Texas Southern University\, among many others; performances at Merkin Hall\, BB Kings\, Iridium\, DROM\, and many other venues in New York City. A review of his US State Department recital asserted that Richard\, “not only displayed impeccable technique but communicated his love of music.” A review in the Washington City Paper by Joel Siegal of the duo of Richard Miller with Patrick de Santos (voice) stated\, “Patrick and Richard strike a remarkable balance between disciplined technique and emotional abandon.” With a Master’s in performance from Manhattan School of Music and a Ph.D. in music theory\, Richard is also active as an educator\, writer\, and composer and teaches at Columbia University. Richard Miller earned a Ph. D. in music theory from Catholic University of America and a Masters in guitar performance from Manhattan School of Music. He currently teaches music theory and ear training at Columbia University and is the Director of Education Programs for the Afro-Latin Jazz Alliance. Lambert Academic Publishing recently published his dissertation\, “The Guitar in the Brazilian Choro.” A long-time practitioner of yoga and surfing\, Richard created the Balanced Guitar retreat to enable students to learn a holistic lifestyle that will ensure many years of healthy and creative guitar playing. The guitar/yoga/surfing retreat takes place in Costa Rica in January (www.balancedguitar.com).

DESCRIPTION:  \n \nCOME JOIN US FOR HAPPY HOUR 5-7PM!! \nBob Israel guitar\nEddie Czerwinski guitar\nColeman O’Donoghue percussion\nDave Marsh bass. \n  \nBob originally made his mark as the founder\, orchestra leader and principal trombonist of the Washington Jazz Battalion\, a 16-piece Big Band\, formed in 1976. The band enjoyed popularity and perform ed overseas\, in NYC\, and throughout most of the east coast. Bob’s Big Band enjoyed great popularity on the East Coast\, playing venues like: Top of the Town; Cellar Door; Blues Alley; Wax Museum; Bethesda Blues and Jazz; Bethesda Cinema Drafthouse; Arties after Dark\, among many corporate\, charity\, and association events. Bob’s skills and the unique sound his Big Band was noted by the Ronald Reagan\, George Bush\, and Bill ClintonAdministrations\, where he was formally invited to perform at their Presidential Inaugurations Balls. As a musician Bob Israel has performed in concert with Nancy Wilson\, Stanley Turrentine\, Harry Connick\, Dizzy Gillespie\, Mary Wilson and Steve Allen. In addition to performing at Inaugural Balls he has performed for many corporate and associate events as an orchestra leader. The Washington Jazz Battalion Big Band was one of Washington’s finest and attracted crowds of over a thousand people a night.
