His intricate solo guitar arrangements of centuries-old Irish harp and fiddle music\, familiar jazz\, blues\, and pop standards of the ‘30s and ’40s\, and original compositions appeal to audiences of all ages and tastes. Bob has arranged and recorded music for PBS\, National Geographic\, and several independent filmmakers. He typically gives more than 200 live performances a year. Bob and his wife\, Cate\, a teacher\, divide their time year-round between a home in New Brunswick\, Canada\, touring the country in the winter\, and nightly performances throughout the summer on Mount Desert Island\, Maine.\n\nAlong with being a life-long musician\, Bob has been a ferry captain\, boatbuilder\, marine biologist\, and the owner/operator of one of the first North Atlantic whale watching companies\, Maine Whalewatch. To do this\, we need to clean up the database first. \n  \nPlease join us tomorrow\, Thursday\, April 25\, at 6:15pm at 49 West for: Deep Ocean Exploration\, by Dr. Emil Petruncio  \n  \nAbstract: We are in a new age of exploration which involves the mapping and characterization of the seafloor and water column of the U.S. Exclusive Economic Zone and other high priority areas\, and attaining new knowledge in the areas of climate science\, energy and minerals\, human health\, ocean health\, and marine archeology. Discoveries in these areas will be aided by the convergence of several key technologies: seafloor mapping with multibeam sonar\, exploration with remotely operated and autonomous underwater vehicles\, and telepresence through fiber optic and satellite links between ship and shore. Examples of these technologies and their applications will be drawn from expeditions of the Exploration Vessel Nautilus\, which is operated by Dr. Robert Ballard and the Ocean Exploration Trust. Special topics will include deep sea hydrothermal vents and past\, present\, and future sea level rise. \n  \nAbout the Speaker: Dr. Emil Petruncio received a BS in Oceanography from the U.S. Naval Academy and a Ph.D. in Physical Oceanography from the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey\, CA.  He served on active duty in the Navy for 32 years as a Surface Warfare Officer\, Oceanographer\, and Permanent Military Professor.  Since 2013\, he has supported the Ocean Exploration Trust part-time as a navigator and expedition leader aboard the Exploration Vessel Nautilus\, conducting seafloor mapping and deep ocean exploration in the Caribbean Sea and Eastern Pacific Ocean. \n**** \nAnd next month\, on Thursday\, May 30 at 6:15pm\, please join us for “The Science of Anti-aging: Hype or Hope” \nby Edward R McDevitt\, M.D.\, CAPT MC USN-R\, Team Physician US Naval AcademyAnnapolis Hand Center \n  \nAbstract: Due to advances in medicine technology\, people are living longer today than ever before. The band enjoyed popularity and perform ed overseas\, in NYC\, and throughout most of the east coast. Bob’s Big Band enjoyed great popularity on the East Coast\, playing venues like: Top of the Town; Cellar Door; Blues Alley; Wax Museum; Bethesda Blues and Jazz; Bethesda Cinema Drafthouse; Arties after Dark\, among many corporate\, charity\, and association events. Bob’s skills and the unique sound his Big Band was noted by the Ronald Reagan\, George Bush\, and Bill ClintonAdministrations\, where he was formally invited to perform at their Presidential Inaugurations Balls. As a musician Bob Israel has performed in concert with Nancy Wilson\, Stanley Turrentine\, Harry Connick\, Dizzy Gillespie\, Mary Wilson and Steve Allen. In addition to performing at Inaugural Balls he has performed for many corporate and associate events as an orchestra leader. The Washington Jazz Battalion Big Band was one of Washington’s finest and attracted crowds of over a thousand people a night. DESCRIPTION:Appointed the Musical Goodwill Ambassadors by the City of Annapolis and the Maritime Republic of Eastport\, the Eastport Oyster Boys love to share their musical celebration and stories of life on the shores of the Chesapeake Bay. For over two decades they have educated\, amused and delighted thousands with their wit\, wisdom and special message of stewardship and appreciation for the Bay and its unique maritime culture and history. The Oyster Boys’ simple philosophy is wrapped up in the three basic necessities of life “a good hat\, a good dog and a good boat.” \nThe Eastport Oyster Boys are known for their engaging and interactive presence with audiences. Along with their original music and songs of the area\, The Boys often engage in an abbreviated and sometimes ever so slightly modified history of the Bay\, its unique culture and characters and allude to some inside anecdotes that oft times inspire The Oyster Boys’material. Most of all\, audiences will remember the good fun they had and will go home with a bit of the Chesapeake in their blood. \nThe Boys are a collaboration of four of the Chesapeake region’s finest and most experienced performers and bring with them a wide variety of instrumentation including acoustic/electric guitars\, keyboards\, banjo\, fiddle\, melodica\, trombone and even hammered dulcimer.
