The band features acclaimed recording and performing artists bassist Max Murray\, saxophonist Jeff Antoniuk\, drummer Frank Russo and guitarist Donato Soveiro. \nAs a long time member of Afro Bop Alliance\, bassist Max Murray shared a Latin Grammy Award and a Grammy nomination for the 2008 album Caribbean Jazz Project with Dave Samuels. The Boston bred musician is a former U.S. Naval Academy Band member. \nSaxophonist Jeff Antoniuk has toured many continents since leaving Alberta\, Canada and is lauded for his heightened powers on the saxophone. Jazz Times praised his considerable chops while MusikReviews.com described his amazing saxophone playing. He is a recognized master of modern jazz\, hard bop and funk. \nDrummer Frank Russo enjoyed a long career with the U.S. Naval Academy Band\, and has since won critical praise for his work with many jazz greats. His recordings have gained recognition from Downbeat\, Jazz Times and Modern Drummer. He has performed at numerous jazz festivals in North America\, Asia\, and Europe. \nGuitarist Donato Soviero has appeared with numerous groups in the US\, Europe and the Caribbean. Like his bandmates\, he has performed at all the top Washington\, D.C. concert venues. Tom Cole\, host of WPFW’S G Strings said Donato’s beautiful phrasing and impressive improvising took me aback. He’s one of those real surprises.

Their focus has always been to compose and perform their own original music within the jazz idiom\, honoring the masters by carrying on the tradition. Be it through blues\, swing\, bebop\, soul jazz\, or more modern funk and groove\, the group has developed an incredible and unique sound by merging the diverse backgrounds of each of these fine musicians into one voice. The result is a whirlwind of grooves\, melodies\, and diverse textures that are a true delight to hear. Collectively\, the members of the Shook/Russo 5tet have performed extensively throughout the United States\, as well as performed in Canada\, Mexico\, Asia\, Europe\, and the Caribbean and at festivals such as the Lionel Hampton Jazz Festival\, the Ottawa Jazz Festival\, the Stan Getz Jazz Festival\, the East Coast Jazz Festival\, the Vancouver International Jazz Festival\, and the Telluride Jazz Festival\, the Wall Street Jazz Festival and the Mid-Atlantic Jazz Festival to name a few. They currently have two CDs out on Summit Records\, and will be releasing a new album later this year\, featuring all new music by members of the band. \n

He has performed and recorded with Wayne Bergeron\, John Clayton\, Wycliffe Gordon\, Tim Hagans\, Slide Hampton\, Maureen McGovern\, James Moody\, New York Voices\, Dick Oates\, Arturo Sandoval\, Doc Severinsen\, Terell Stafford\, Tim Warfield\, and Bill Watrous. On tour with Maureen McGovern\, Fidyk has performed with orchestras throughout the country\, including The Cincinnati Pops\, Spokane Symphony\, Nashville Symphony\, Plano Symphony\, The Baltimore Symphony\, The Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra\, and the Jerry Lewis MDA Labor Day Telethon. His discography as a leader/co-leader includes: Big Kids (U.S. Roots)\, A Perfect Match (Write Groove)\, and Live at Blues Alley (OA2). Fidyk can also be heard on over 100 recordings as a contributing artist.

DESCRIPTION:Come on down to 49west – Larry and i’ll be singing & playing and hanging out in one of our favorite local places.. there is all kinds of good stuff going there besides this music we’re promoting. amazing artwork\, food and drinks\, people. No cover\, just walk on in\, seat yourself. – we’re in the front room. \nJenn Byrne is the foundation of the group\, playing the upright bass\, and doing the Lion’s share of the singing. Jenn has an enigmatic and versitile voice\, which is capable of a wide variety of styles. In addition to The Befuddlers Jenn can be seen around town with her other group\, the Hypnotic Panties. She also has a band with her brother Jeremy\, and father Pete which is called Crosstown. \nLarry Byrne is a multi-instumentalist and singer\, and lays down the rhythm on acoustic guitar with The Befuddlers. Larry sits on the board of AMFM\, a charity organization for musicians based in Annapolis. He can be seen playing with many local groups at AMFM fundraisers. Larry also plays with the local funk group\, Higher Hands\, playing the keyboards and supplying left hand bass. He also loves to join the Hypnotic Panties whenever possible! \nPete Reichwein is the father of Jenn\, and the Dobro player in the group. Pete has been a fixture in the Bluegrass community for decades\, but is also an extremely diverse musician with a good knowledge of many different styles of music.\nNo Cover Charge

Steve is an amazing singer-songwriter who mixes the old with the new…1920s tunes you have not heard in years and then a lovely ballad of his own creation! The group numbers 5-6 players so our stage will be full and the evening lively!

DESCRIPTION:Talk Title: The Magothy River: Impaired but Beloved \nPresenter: Dr. Sally Hornor\, Professor and Researcher\, Anne Arundel Community College \nAbstract: The Magothy River watershed\, like so many urban/suburban watersheds\, is a contrast of dense development and wooded shores. As a result\, water quality and habitat of the River and its shorelines varies from good to poor\, depending on land use. This talk will focus on current work on the River carried out by the Magothy River Association\, including a water quality index\, creek restoration\, oyster restoration\, yellow perch reproduction and the recent completion of a Water Trail Brochure with video links to creeks and hidden places.\nAbout the Speaker: Sally Hornor received her BA from Goucher College and an MS and PhD in Microbiology and Ecology at the University of Connecticut. She has lived in the Magothy watershed for over 30 years\, teaching Microbiology and Ecology at Anne Arundel Community College and monitoring bathing beach water quality throughout the County through Op. Clearwater. She has worked with the all-volunteer Magothy River Assn in a variety of projects\, ranging from bacterial water quality to a dark false mussel population explosion to yellow perch spawning.

DESCRIPTION:Amy Shook – acoustic bass\nPat Shook – tenor saxophone\nFrank Russo – drums\nTim Leahey – trumpet\nJonathan Epley – guitar \nThe Shook/Russo 5tet has been performing together since 2005 in the mid-Atlantic region. Their focus has always been to compose and perform their own original music within the jazz idiom\, honoring the masters by carrying on the tradition. Be it through blues\, swing\, bebop\, soul jazz\, or more modern funk and groove\, the group has developed an incredible and unique sound by merging the diverse backgrounds of each of these fine musicians into one voice. The result is a whirlwind of grooves\, melodies\, and diverse textures that are a true delight to hear. Collectively\, the members of the Shook/Russo 5tet have performed extensively throughout the United States\, as well as performed in Canada\, Mexico\, Asia\, Europe\, and the Caribbean and at festivals such as the Lionel Hampton Jazz Festival\, the Ottawa Jazz Festival\, the Stan Getz Jazz Festival\, the East Coast Jazz Festival\, the Vancouver International Jazz Festival\, and the Telluride Jazz Festival\, the Wall Street Jazz Festival and the Mid-Atlantic Jazz Festival to name a few. They currently have two CDs out on Summit Records\, and will be releasing a new album later this year\, featuring all new music by members of the band. \n

DESCRIPTION:Hailing from Annapolis\, MD\, Doug Segree and his band have been playing clubs and events up and down the East Coast and throughout the country for over 15 years. This band is all about a good time on stage and it shows. With a huge playlist to draw from (Top 40\, Classic Rock\, Funk\, Motown\, 80’s\, etc.) and multiple lead singers\, these guys really know how to mix it up and play to their audience. \nDoug began his music career as a regular performer at local college bars in and around Gainesville\, Florida while receiving his MBA at the University of Florida in 1994. Doug’s business and music worlds converged with the success of his Two Ten Twelve Productions\, LLC\, while fulfilling his love of performing and entertaining that has taken him to stages throughout the country. \nDoug has been a mainstay performer in the Mid-Atlantic region over the last fifteen years. He and his band have been playing the fifth quarter club level parties at every Washington Redskins home game at Fed-Ex Field\, along with performances at Washington Wizards games at The Verizon Center. He has been a part of a “Dewey Tradition” for the past fourteen summers\, playing “Suicide Sunday” afternoon deck parties at the world famous Starboard in Dewey Beach\, Delaware.
