Joey Reisberg currently represents the northeast USA as one of five 2016 National Student Poets. Joey and his fellow Student Poets were inducted at the White House by Michelle Obama in September. Thousands of students submitted their work to be considered, and that group was whittled down to five, who will serve in this capacity for the entire school year. Joey is a junior at the George Washington Carver Center for Arts and Technology in Towson, MD where he studies creative writing. In haphazard bits of downtime, Joey is an amateur mushroom hunter and old horror movie junkie. Catch his forthcoming work to be published in Fissure.
Shirley J. Brewer graduated from careers in bartending, palm-reading, and speech therapy. She is a poet, educator, and workshop facilitator. Poems of hers have appeared in The Cortland Review, Innisfree Poetry Journal, Pearl, Comstock Review, Loch Raven Review, Passager, New Verse News, and other journals. Her poetry books include A Little Breast Music, 2008, Passager Books; and After Words, 2013, Apprentice House/Loyola University. Her poem “Wanted” appeared in Baltimore writer Dean Smith’s book, Never Easy, Never Pretty: Story of the 2012 Ravens. Shirley received an Honorable Mention in Passager literary journal’s national poetry contest in 2013.
