Steve Abshire is a jazz guitarist, teacher, and clinician in his native Washington D.C./ Baltimore area. He studied with jazz guitar legends Herb Ellis, Barney Kessel, and Joe Pass.
Steve retired from the U.S. Navy Band’s premiere jazz ensemble the Commodores in 1997, where he performed as guitarist/featured soloist for 18 of his 24 years in Navy Bands
He has played with many jazz greats including, Tal Farlow, Bucky Pizzarelli, Marian McPartland and Charlie Byrd to name a few. Steve has worked with vocalists Della Reese, Rosemary Clooney and Joe Williams. He has performed in well-known venues like Blues Alley and the Kennedy Center, and jazz festivals including the famed “Jazz In Marciac” International Jazz Festival in France.
Steve has recorded many CDs, earning praise from critics and fans.
Steve Herberman is a graduate of the Berklee College Of Music. He has performed at venues such as Birdland in NYC, Blues Alley, and the Kennedy Center, and played with many renowned musicians such as Keter Betts, Buster Williams, John Pisano, just to name a few..
Steve taught jazz guitar on the faculty of Towson University for 14 years and is presently teaching guitar at Sidwell Friends School in DC. He is also on the faculty of Maryland Summer Jazz and Jazz Band Masterclass and teaches at his home studio in addition to giving online lessons. He has presented master classes at many universities across the U.S, Europe and the UK. Steve has written instructional material for several music magazines and an ongoing column for Fingerstyle Guitar Journal. He has produced over 60 full-length educational videos for Mike’s Masterclasses online teaching resource.
Steve has recorded many CDs, each receiving international critical acclaim.
These two guitarists collaborated together to record the CD, “Between Friends”.
