Walker Babington is an artist, actor and stunt performer who creates images on reclaimed materials by exploiting their inherent deteriorative properties. Through burning wood, rusting steel, tarnishing copper, and scratching, grinding, melting, marring and otherwise selectively corroding his media, Babington has traveled the world creating his creatively-destructive work. Over the past decade, his variegated career has included working as a street artist in rural Costa Rica; using his flame-engulfed body to scorch a “Fire Angel” into wood; and creating large-scale fire-drawn murals in San Francisco, New Orleans, and Bangalore, India.
Sculpturally, Babington builds larger-than-life dreamscape creations that employ curved architecture, storybook aesthetic, and his wheelhouse reclaimed materials. He is (mostly) based in New Orleans, where he creates solar pyrography (artwork made by burning an image into wood using a magnifying glass and the sun) in the legendary Jackson Square.
