Joanne Bond and Carey Crane

July 2, 2026 By

Exhibiting at 49 West through September 2026
Reception Sunday, July 5 from 5 – 7 PM at 49 West

Joanne Bond Artist Bio
Joanne Bond grew up in New York, steeped in making and teaching art, but found herself in a decades-long interruption of art-making. In her late teens she joined a cult, had an arranged marriage, raised a family, left the cult, operated her graphic design business for 33 years, ran a benefit concert series in Baltimore from 2001 till 2013, became a performing singer-songwriter, voice teacher and lead singer Telesma, a popular Baltimore psychedelic tribal band!
In 2024, Joanne got her groove back and plunged deeply into her lifeblood, art! Explosive, colorful paintings and collages came at a ferocious pace, as if to make up for lost time. Working in acrylic paints and inks with hand-dyed rice paper and mono-printing, Bond uploaded her work to social media and attention came quickly.
The arts magazine, Upstart Annapolis noticed and contacted Joanne. She and her art are featured in the Spring 2025 issue of the magazine, with her art adorning both covers and an 8-page spread. In the summer of 2025, one of Joanne’s watercolor and ink pieces, “Memory Palace” won the Juror’s Choice Award through the Maryland Federation of Art at Maryland Hall for the Creative Arts.
From March 3 through May 15, 2026, Joanne had a solo exhibition, consisting of twenty-five of Joanne’s unique mixed media collages, paintings and drawings, in the main gallery at Arundel Center in Annapolis. She’s delighted to be showing her work at one of her favorite haunts, 49 West!
Carey Crane Artist Bio
Carey Crane is an abstract painter living in Shady Side, Maryland. He grew up near Tampa Bay on Pinellas Point, St. Petersburg, Florida, where he spent many hours in his father’s art studio. That early experience shaped the way he makes art today: with play, movement, and an open response to whatever emerges on the canvas.
With guidance from painter Hiram Williams, Carey began developing his own personal language of painted shapes and marks. After earning his BFA in 1982, his path shifted when he started working as a museum exhibit fabricator. This led to a career as an museum exhibit curator. In 2010, while working with artists at the Museum of Art and a Gallery in Las Cruces, New Mexico, Carey’s own painting practice was renewed.
Exhibition Schedule:
July 3 Exhibition Opens
July 5 In-Person Reception 5 – 7 PM
September 29 Last Day of the Exhibition
Their work is on display at 49 West located at 49 West St, Annapolis, MD 21401. Open daily.

Jeff Nicklason Artist Bio

Michelle Spiziri Artist Bio
Michelle is an intuitive artist who works in a variety of different mediums mostly focused on painting and ceramic sculpture. She strives to create art that flirts with the lively tension of movement and rest. Stylistically she works in abstraction/abstract-ed with fantastical whimsy. Her desire for the viewer is to draw them in through a curious wonderment towards a meaningful connection to the piece.
Michelle’s work playfully sometimes morph from one story vignette to the next where there is always something new to be discovered.
Michelle graduated with a B.F.A. from the Maryland Institute College of Art. Later she received her art teaching certificate from Towson University. Michelle is a full time artist with an online presence who shows her art throughout Maryland, Pennsylvania, and New York with collectors spanning the Continental USA. Please join us for the opening reception for Christa Ladny & Meredith Faid Sunday, August 1st, 5-7pm.

Christa Ladny has enjoyed working as a scenic artist in Theatre for the past six years. “It matters a lot to be engaged in a collaborative storytelling process. Since you are anyway, it’s nice to do it on purpose.”
As many Theatres have closed their doors for the ’20 and ’21 seasons, she has returned to painting with brushes under 2 ½ inches thick in a stubborn promise to keep spirits up. She is interested in finding a home gallery and mural/illustration projects.

    Christa Ladny Bio

Meredith Faid is a freelance paint artist originally from the Baltimore, Maryland area. She studied theater artistry in college at UMBC, and worked full time around the Washington D.C. area as a traveling scenic artist for several theaters. Since then, she has branched off into becoming a canvas painter. She’s known for recreating photos clients give her into canvas wall pieces for their home. She loves doing that type of painting, but also loves creating original art that is unique to her style. Her main medium of choice is acrylic, and her favorite brush is a 1″ purdy!

    Demetrios N. Fotos, the photographer
The very first photographers would have said that photography captured the light. So all the light goes in a small box, and then, amazing things start to happen. Photography has been my fascination and passion since I acquired my first hand-me-down camera in the seventh grade. I was determined to master the camera from the start. By the time I completed high school, I had won several awards in contests and had professional assignments.

    ABOUT CINDY BERRY SULLIVAN

    Annapolis Artist

    Born in Waterbury, CT.

B.S. Education, Southern CT State University

MFA Painting & Drawing, UNLV, Las Vegas, NV

There is an energy I hope to convey in my artwork that I imagine is similar to the energy musicians hope to convey to their listeners.

Much of my art is created with a soundtrack or a live performance as inspiration.

Each piece is begun with an urge to physically interpret the visual and the emotional through an expressive style and intuitive use of color.

Though born with a hand tremor I have learned to use my hand movement FOR me balancing both the intentional and the accidental in a way that is always unique.

I hope the work “moves” you!
